Short vowel review lessons for kindergarten and first grade, fully scripted and aligned to the science of reading. Unit 3 of The Phonics Framework gives every short vowel its own lesson, then mixes the vowels together until students can read and spell all five without guessing.

Each lesson runs 30 minutes and follows the same routine every day: phonemic awareness, three quick drills, a word chain with word mapping, heart word review, dictation, and a decodable passage. Students start with CVC words, then move to CCVC and CVCC words with consonant blends at the beginning and end, like flag, hand, and plant.

You get two versions of every lesson. The scripted version tells you exactly what to say, including what to do when a student gives the wrong answer. The quick reference version puts the lesson on one page for when you already know the routine.

Teach it right after Unit 2, or use it as a catch-up unit for students who moved through the alphabet before their vowels were solid. It also works as a short vowel review at the start of first grade, and the entry check shows you where each group should start.
