This Kindergarten science of reading phonics and spelling curriculum takes you through the whole kindergarten year, starting with how speech sounds are made and ending with students reading and spelling words with digraphs. Every lesson is 30 minutes and follows the same routine.

You get two versions of every lesson. The scripted version tells you exactly what to say, including what to do when a student gives the wrong answer. The quick reference version puts the whole lesson on one page for when you already know the routine and just need the sounds, words, and timing.

Reading and spelling happen in the same lesson. Students decode the words, then turn around and encode them.

⭐ THIS IS A GROWING CURRICULUM. HERE IS EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS.

Right now you get Units 0 and 1. That is 16 lessons covering articulation, uppercase and lowercase letter formation, the first five sounds, and VC and CVC words.

Why You'll Love It:

Every sound starts with articulation. Students learn where a sound is made in the mouth before they ever see the letter, which is what makes a sound wall useful instead of decorative. It also gives you something to say to the student who keeps mixing up /f/ and /v/.

Word control is strict. Students only read words built from graphemes they have already been taught, plus heart words from earlier lessons. Nothing in the practice pages asks a kindergartner to guess.

Use it as your whole group phonics block, in small group intervention, or one on one for tutoring and homeschool.

Prep is quick and easy.

Print the lesson, print the student page, and teach.

⭐ Already have your sound wall up? The keywords in this curriculum match the Thrive Sound Wall exactly, so students see the same picture on the wall and in the lesson.
